The campaign finance reforms introduced by the government now have a green light after the New Democrats ended their filibuster. The NDP wanted lower ceilings than the proposed $5000 contribution limits that they say advantaged the Tories. The NDP wanted a stay on the legislation to allow public debate and influence on the legislation, which they effectively received when the government agreed to not consider the motion in committee for another six months. In the meantime, the Tories say they commit to follow the limits as of the first of the year, before the legislation is considered in committee. The proposed reforms are covered in an earlier post here.
